Second Life Linden Labs -- Marcophoto Faints While Canceling His Second Life Account

OR... Linden Lunacy in Second Life; Ticket #299,888,487,357,658,001

Awright, awright, not EVERYTHING the Second Life Linden Labs do is totally idiotic; but they sure do seem to do their fair share, and then some. Sometimes I wonder if those same pre-teenies they are trying to keep away from SLimeland are the very same pre-teenies running the show.

Case in point... Recently, out of curiosity, I looked into what one has to do to cancel their SL account. We all have friends who have ranted and raved at how they were "going to leave SL forever, GOODBYE CRUEL WORRRRRLD!" and they "poofed forever" only to poof right back a few days later....the crisis having passed and their SL addiction requiring another fix.

So I was curious to see what the process of canceling entailed. I held my breath and hit the "Cancel Account" button. I felt pretty sure it would take more than one button click to wipe out my inventory of approximately 350 million totally-disorganized items. Hell, to clean out THAT mess would take a GAZILLION "cancel" buttons, PLUS a bulldozer the size of Sicily.

And I was correct. There are a series of steps along with dire warnings. But the particular Linden Lunacy I want to point out today, is the following statement found on their Cancel page.

***************

Still Want to Cancel?
If you still want to cancel your account, click on the cancel button below. You can reactivate your account by 1970-01-30. Your Second Life name, avatar and inventory items will still be yours if you reactivate before 1970-03-01. You will need to create a new account if you decide to rejoin Second Life after 1970-03-01. https://secure-web6.secondlife.com/account/cancel.php?lang=

How interesting. In order to revive your account, you must do so before March 1st, 1970. Hmmm, 1970?

I know that year is way back in predawn history, before many present readers were born, though I myself was in my infancy (wink)...but more important, wasn't 1970 well over twenty years before Second Life was created?

This error has since been corrected. but, one wonders how long it took before the "gods" of the Lindens deigned to listen to the shouts of the common rabble. WHAT? The Lindens LISTENING to their users? MARCO FAINTS!
