Home Invasion in Second Life!

All KINDS of weird, strange, funny things happen, when it comes to Second Life Social Psychology. What would you do if another avie you knew came into your bedroom in Second Life uninvited, while you were having sex with someone ....stood there and watched you...and refused to leave?

Read this conversation! It is a totally true story. It happened to a friend of mine, WG, female. All names have been changed to protect the guilty! The initials HI stand for Home Invader.

18:15] HI:: hi

18:15] WG: um, you are making my guest uncomfortable.
18:16] HI:: oh I am sorry, I thought you liked to share
18:16] WG: I would not mind, but she is uncomfortable.
18:16] HI:: and you like her ?
18:17] WG: yes
18:18] HI:: you seem to be less enthousiastic than last time
18:19] WG: I am surprised that you showed up like this...but I like you.
18:19] HI:: sorry

18:23] HI:: I really like your house
18:24] WG: thank you honey.
18:24] HI:: I used it once
18:24] WG: without me here?
18:25] HI:: yes, I came once after the last time
18:25] WG: you brought someone HERE without my permission? what was her name?
18:25] HI:: Yes, I brought (name deleted)

18:26] WG: it would be better if you asked me first...my bf might walk in on you.
18:26] HI:: what is "walk in" ?
18:27] WG: this home belongs to my bf.
18:27] WG: he might come home
18:27] WG: and be very angry
18:27] HI:: so I would have left
18:28] HI:: I like you
18:28] HI:: not him
18:28] WG: thank you baby
18:29] HI:: I am sorry but I don't care of him

18:32] WG: but Hi, you should not come into my home without my permission...that is very rude.
18:32] HI:: but I logged out from here.
18:32] HI:: that is he reason
18:33] WG: I am very upset that you have done this.
18:33] HI:: I could not imagine that you could be so posessive

18:34] WG: I would never enter your home without asking first.
18:35] HI:: but you were not here last time
18:35] HI:: I have not seen you for a while
18:35] WG: You should not go into another person's home when they are not home.
18:36] HI:: I am not into property obsessions
18:36] HI:: I did not imagine you were possessive. I had the feeling you were very open mind

18:38] WG: I AM very open minded. but I am also polite.
18:38] WG: It is not polite what you did.
18:38] HI:: I did not say you are not polite
18:38] HI:: I am sorry to have disturbed you
18:38] HI:: I am very open
18:38] HI:: I have no personal home, but if I had one, it would open to my friends of course
18:38] WG: But you should not invade a person's home.
18:39] WG: you should be polite.
18:39] HI:: I have friends who have no problem with that
18:41] WG: You seemed like a nice gurl, but I am very upset with you right now.
18:42] HI:: what is this ?
18:43] HI:: what is the meaning of this ? I don't catch you really
18:43] WG: I would like you to leave and never come back
18:44] HI:: ok if you want, I do not understand why .. but if you say it, so ok
18:44] HI:: I will let to know to my friends to avoid to come here also

18:45] HI:: yes, what for ?
18:45] WG: I am trying to be patient with you
18:46] WG: It is rude to enter another person's home without an invitation.
18:46] HI:: ok I have understood what you said
18:46] WG: In some cities, it is called "home invasion"
18:46] HI:: I don't agree, but ok it is your view
18:47] HI:: we are in sl
18:47] WG: If you want to open your home to anybody, that is your business.
18:47] WG: but I like my privacy
18:47] HI:: not to anybody, to my friends only
18:47] WG: ok fine.
18:47] HI:: ok I have understood, I am not stupid

18:47] WG: but I do not want my friends to show up without my permission
18:48] HI:: I have understood
18:48] WG: and even if I am home, with another girl, It is embarassing when yoiu just drop in.
18:48] HI:: I understand your view , it is not a problem
18:48] WG: maybe it is the first time with the othr girl, like tonight.
18:49] HI:: we don't agree because I don't take this seriously. It is competely virtual. So I cannot imagine so many complications. But ok this is serious for you and I understand
18:49] WG: my girl was very embarrassed to look up and see someone watching us.
18:49] WG: we are the same people her in sl that we are in RL

18:50] HI:: but it is not a real propoerty at all .. only graphism
18:50] WG: You would not walk into someone's bedroom without an invitation in RL, and not here either.
18:50] WG: it is wrong.
18:51] WG: I will correct this situation. I will buy a security orb for my home.
18:51] HI:: I assure you this is graphism
18:51] HI:: not real at all
18:51] WG: Then when the orb is working, you will not be able to get in unless I let you in.
18:51] HI:: you take this too much seriously
18:51] HI:: but ok
18:52] HI:: I undersantd
18:52] WG: You have offended me.
18:52] HI:: ok, let us say that
18:52] HI:: I cannot say the opposite, this is your feeling
18:52] WG: Valerie, how old are you in rl?
18:52] HI:: 24
18:53] WG: I am surprised at you.
18:53] WG: I would expect this from someone much younger.
18:54] HI:: I don't catch you, you pretend that this is serious , since it is only graphism, and you say I am not mature ? is it a joke ?
18:54] WG: Your behaviour is verry immature.
18:54] WG: Your behaviour is outrageous.

18:55] HI:: you are not aware that everything is virtual here and that this is not serious at all
18:55] WG: It is totally serious.
18:55] WG: It is a separate reality.
18:55] HI:: what ?a virtual home is something serious ?
18:55] WG: The rules of human ettiquete apply here too.
18:55] WG: yes
18:56] WG: totally serious.
18:56] HI:: Do you have a friend who is expert in IT ?
18:57] WG: We are speaking here of manners, of good manners and bad manners. Your manners are very, very bad.
18:57] HI:: I am not like that at all in rl. I cannot enter in a house without invitation
18:58] WG: yes, but you did here. and it is just as bad.
18:58] HI:: you know, I am 24, in a business school. 6 years in univeristy. I know what I say
18:58] WG: I am a college grad.
18:58] WG: but so what
18:59] HI:: just to say I am not someone without any education ... I know what you say, and I know also that sl is only composed by "0" and "1"
19:00] WG: and manners
19:00] WG: human laws of social interaction.
19:00] HI:: ok, let us say that
19:01] HI:: you considered me as a friend or an intrusive ?
19:01] WG: at first, I invited you as a friend.
19:01] WG: But now you are an intruder.

At this point, WG used a defensive weapons system to try to eject HI. It did not work. WG then used a "slow kill" device that attacked the invader with fireworks and SHOULD make her have to relog, but it did not work either, the Invader must have been wearing a shield. Finally WG launched a Cage around the Invader. This works.

19:01] HI:: listen to me
19:02] HI:: you find me here, and then you shoot on me, you put me in a cage ... you think that these are good manners to be with friends even if there is a problem of perception ?
19:03] WG: if it is just o and 1, then what is the problem with my cage?
19:03] HI:: there is no problem. but it makes noise and a lot of light on my screen

WG finally leaves HER OWN HOME out of frustration!

19:19] HI:: (Saved Mon Feb 11 21:06:48 2008) you left ?
19:19] WG: yes I left.
19:21] HI:: I left your house, I hope you will be happy with that
19:22] WG: I am shocked at your behaviour
19:22] HI:: ok you told me 5 times
19:22] WG: I will buy a security orb tonight.
19:22] HI:: I have understood
19:22] HI:: I will not come back, don't worry

CONCLUSION: WG has installed a Security Orb. Intruders are now ejected from her property after 10 seconds.
