Jagga Meredith Responds: I guess I should be flattered but this does provide an opportunity for discussion

by Jagga Meredith
(Second Life)

A few thoughts.

1. You'll notice that I've updated my profile since the screen-captured version (you have the updated version below). At no time in my profile have I said I'm a "he". More about that below.

2. Second Life is NOT real life. Get over it. Really. "Looking up in surprise, to my horror I find I am in bed with..." - no you're NOT. You're sitting or lying or hanging from your ankles bound in duct tape in front of a computer typing with your fingers (or nose). If you want a RL encounter with a female (or guy for that matter), put down the mouse, turn off the computer, get out of your basement man-cave, go to your local bar or nightclub or bathhouse or library and pick one up.

3. You appear to have a severely limited understanding of the varieties of human sexuality. Current research indicates basically that the current labels "gay", "straight" and "transgendered" don't tell the entire story. We are all of us on a continuum of several axes of sexuality. These axes include how we identify ourselves vs. who we actually sleep with. There are men who identify as "straight" who can be frequently found in the bathhouses. Even "transgendered" covers a lot of territory (incidentally, none of my alters consider themselves "transgendered"). Incidentially the articles on Wikipedia are ridiculously out of date.

4. You also appear to have no understanding (other than how to copy and paste from Wikipedia) about DID. My current psychologist doesn't like the diagnosis and a study of the works of Carl Jung reveals a much more interesting scenario.

Jung posits that we all have a "shadow", a "Dark Side" (to continue your Star Wars motif) that we attempt to (or authoritarian society demands we) keep repressed. Males have a female shadow called an 'anima', females a male 'animus'. They are very real and are ignored at your peril. Coming to terms with your shadow is deemed the "process of individuation". Exploring the matter took Jung a shelf-full of books; Google and Wikipedia are your friends. Multiple "shadows" are a possibility.

Personally I think Second Life is providing a "sandbox" for people to allow their Jungian shadows to play and experiment as part of a self-directed process of individuation. Some psychologists are even talking about using it as a therapeutic tool.

So in answer to your questions:

>Has anyone else noticed how large the bi/lez population seems to be in SL?

Given the continued hostility in RL (and some parts of SL) to the LGBT-alphabet community, it's a hell of a lot safer to explore your sexuality in SL. How about the BDSM crowd? The furries? The Avatar-themed sims are so full you can't get in.

>How many are really females in RL?

Define "female".

We are born into SL with no genitalia - we have to obtain a freebie or buy one from Xcite! (plug). What about RL children born with ambiguous or missing parts who are raised the opposite gender from their chromosones. What about people with interesting genetic makeups - XXY? Hermaphrodites? (Xcite! has a kit)

Let's talk about "transvestites". I had a friend who was the life of the party. She was pretty, sexy, flirty - she made her living as a fashion model specializing in bikinis. In the bedroom she was a wildcat. She only had one non-negotiable request - do not touch or talk about the cancerous appendage between her legs. She eventually had it excised. A few years later she got legally married (this was before gay marriage). Calling her "male" would be ridiculous.

If I'm in "Jimmy" mode, I feel "male" (whatever that means) and tend to do male sorts of thing, and hook up with women ("Jimmy" is "straight" (whatever that means)). "Michael" hooks up with men. "Teri" is most definitely "female" (wtm). Only "Lori" is allowed on the lesbian-themed beaches. If I become uncomfortable as one alter, I switch to one that is. If "Teri" has managed to drag you into bed (the little slut) you most definitely have been dealing with a "female".

>the Lindens did a survey of their accounts, and found that 50% of RL male accounts had female alts.... and vice versa for the RL females! Some accounts say that 60% of all "lesbians" in SL are really men! From my own experience I would guess the number to be higher

...with the implied "why"?

My answer is "why not?" Looks like lots of people are letting their shadows out for a romp.

If you are that stressed out that might possibly have some sort of sexually-themed encounter with a "he", maybe it's time you had a little talk with your shadow (beyond sharing a beer). Who knows, you might get to like her.

Oh, and why the harsh tone in my profile?

Most of my alters (of all forms of sexuality) like to hang at nude beaches (in RL I hate beaches, the sand gets into everything). The same tiresome conversation occurs over and over and over.

SJ: (some jerk) Hi.
JM: (Jagga Meredith) Hi.
SJ: You're cute.
JM: TY
SJ: Send pics.
JM: I don't do RL, read my profile.
SJ: Go voice
JM: I don't do voice, read my profile.
SJ: Turn on your webcam
JM: Don't have one. Wouldn't turn it on if I did.
SJ: Name, age, location, your mother's maiden name...
JM: WHAT PART OF "READ THE F*****G PROFILE" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!?!?

>>>>>Marco Responds.....

Jagga, thanks for being a "good sport." While true that your profile is the strangest one I have ever seen, it is also one of the most interesting! Soooo many SL profiles are so very bland. You made some very interesting points, and gave us all something to think about. Thanks for responding!
